Dr. Gabay was a senior researcher and head of R&D groups at the Laser Department of the Nuclear Research Center Negev (NRCN), Beer-Sheva, Israel, during the period 1975-1996. His work was focused on the development of lasers and their applications, and their applications in science, medicine, and industry.Concerning the medical field aspects, Dr. Gabay developed a High-Power Gold Vapor-laser for “Blood Purification” and other Photodynamic applications, a laser system for Ophthalmology and another one for Dermatology.
He spent two Sabbatical years at medical centers: one at the Biomedical Institute (years 87/88), University of Toronto, where he was within the pioneers to process corneal lenticules with ArF Excimer laser, and the other (94/95) at the Laser Center of the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam, where he was involved in various topics such as: Dermatology (PWS), Dentistry (Drilling with Er:YAG) and ENT.
Since 1997, when he established his own consulting office "DGS laser in Medicine Technologies", Dr. Gabay serves as a consultant to Hi-Tech companies, medical centers, and universities. He serves also as a lecturer at the faculties of Health Science and Safety Engineering, Ben-Gurion University, and at the faculty of medicine, Tel-Aviv University, and in charge of laser safety at Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot.
Dr. Gabay holds an undergraduate degree in physics, a master in physics, focusing on lasers and electro-optics, and a PhD degree in physics, focusing on medical applications of lasers, all degrees from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheva, Israel.
Dr Gabay is a member of national and international professional associations, such as: the Israel Physical Society, the Israeli Association of Lasers and Electro-Optics, the Israel Society for Lasers in Medical Sciences, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, Laser Institute of America, and the International Academy for Laser Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Gabay published about 70 articles and abstracts, and a book (Hebrew, 300 pages) entitled; "The Laser and its applications in Medicine".
