Nettie Buitelaar is currently Managing Director of the Leiden Bio Science Park foundation in the Netherlands and runs an independent business: Buitelaar Biotech Business.After receiving her Ph.D. in bioprocess engineering, Nettie Buitelaar worked in biotechnology research management for some ten years. Having obtained her MBA she transferred to the VC industry, after which she was National Director of the Dutch BioPartner program, aimed at stimulating entrepreneurship in Life Sciences. After heading a business unit within a biopharmaceutical services company she started her own company in 2006, Buitelaar Biotech Business, working as independent consultant.
The Leiden Bio Science Park foundation is responsible for further development of the largest and highest valued Business Park in the Netherlands (over 85 companies active in Life Sciences with over € 5B turnover), attracting foreign and national biotechnology companies and developing the cluster in and around the Park.
As Managing Director, Nettie’s key responsibilities include: strategy, team, and finance management, external representation, overall responsibility for all LBSPf activities, liaison with policy makers on all levels, new business development, and international acquisition.
As an independent entrepreneur she consults the Dutch biotechnology industry, focusing on the combination of science and business.
Nettie is also member of the Steering Committee of CEBR (Council of European Biotechnology Regions).
